Scandic Mountain Guides offers Ski Touring trips in Iceland from March 6th until May 24th 2018. Our skiing area in Iceland, the Troll Peninsula, has endless options to offer for ski touring, where you can ski from the mountain peak all the way to the Arctic Ocean.
In terms of ski touring, there are few places in the world with as many possibilities as the Troll Peninsula in Iceland. The area is vast and largely unexplored. The skiing slopes are truly unique, with a panorama view of amazing slopes waiting for their first descents.
During winter you can ski until dark and watch the majestic northern lights dance in the sky. In spring, there is nothing like skiing down slopes in between the towering peaks, ending the ride where the shoreline meets the North Atlantic.
The terrain has a lot of different options, from steep couloirs to easy and moderate slopes. It is also possible to traverse over to the next fjords and ski down to the coast line or into the small valleys, where you will find untouched snow and propably make the first descent in that run.
Prepare for different skiing conditions; fresh powder skiing, skiing in the stable spring corn snow, which is perfect for steep and extreme skiing and more exposed lines than you normally find where avalanches are more likely. Our vertical drop is up to 1.500m or approximately 4.500 ft. in the unbelievable Arctic mountains.
After a great day in the mountains, it is possible to bathe in Iceland´s nicest hot natural baths in an unforgettable environment or go to the great swimming pools that are located close to our Lodge. It is also possible to go on our private boat after the ski tour, where we will try to find some whales to watch swimming around. We will even try sea angling to catch some cod.

How to book
We make the booking process as simple as possible. To join us for the most incredible Icelandic skiing adventure of your life, here’s what you need to do:
A „typical“ tour with Scandic Mountain Guides.
After breakfast there will be a short briefing regarding avalanche safety and beacon training and ski-/snowboard equipment adjustment, just so everyone will be ready.
Then the fun part starts; ski touring and exploring new lines and enjoying the breathtaking view, while skiing down to the Arctic Ocean. Terrain selection is determined by the guides and is based on avalanche assessment, weather and the skiing ability of the group. Your safety is our number one priority.
After a few hours of touring, we will find a great spot for lunch and some refreshments. Then our ride continues through the day. Scandic Guides has reached an agreement with some of the local farmers, allowing us to drop in at the farms to taste some Icelandic shark, smoked arctic char or even smoked lamb.
After detaching the skis each day you can enjoy some of the adventure packages we have to offer, e.g. whale watching, sea angling on our private boat or horseback riding on the great Icelandic horse. It is also possible to bathe in Iceland´s nicest nature baths in an unforgettable environment or go to the local swimming pools. The other options is simply to sit down at the Lodge to relax and unwind with a glass of wine or a pint of beer.
Later in the evening the group will have dinner together at the Lodge and discuss the great adventures of the day.
In case of a bad weather and down days you have a great opportunity to explore Iceland in a different way. You are able to enjoy all the activities we have to offer.
